Canvas Crumb text

Bite-sized updates on the latest Canvas features and enhancements!

Turnitin SimCheck Enhanced Similarity Report is Live

Turnitin’s enhanced Similarity Report is live and now groups matched text into four categories based on citation and quotation use, making it easier to spot potential issues at a glance. Source cards, filters, and exclusions let instructors dig into the details behind any match.

Student Self-Assessments in Enhanced Rubrics are Available

Assignment Enhancements lets instructors turn on self assessment via the grading rubric, allowing students to evaluate their own submitted work before it is graded. Students select a score and add comments for each criterion, and can submit the assessment once per assignment. Self-assessments do not carry a grade or have a separate due date. Instructors can view student self-assessments in SpeedGrader.

Students Cannot Rely on the Rocketship Icon to Identify Quiz Type

Faculty should inform students directly whether a quiz is built as Classic Quizzes or New Quizzes when Respondus LockDown Browser (+ Monitor) is required. The version of quiz directly impacts how students should launch Respondus. Faculty see an outlined rocketship icon for Classic Quizzes and a filled rocketship icon for New Quizzes, but students always see a filled rocketship icon regardless of quiz type.

Canvas has confirmed this as a long-standing bug with no fix date currently available.
